These rides are designed as a reintroduction to cycling for those who haven't been on a bike for years. They take place on purpose-built, off-road tracks at Haldon forest, so there’s no traffic. There’s a café on site and we generally stop for coffee or tea (and cake!) after the ride.
- Build your confidence on a bike
- Develop your skills
- Meet new people
- Improve your fitness, and
- Enjoy the benefits of being out in nature
"A fun way to get and stay fit in the great outdoors with fab company! Unlike many of the exercise classes I have attended, I really look forward to my weekly ride and have even bought my own bike!!" - Mary Ann Nestor
Cycling gets you outdoors into the fresh air, where the fabulous views nourish you. It is a great way to get your body moving, and to improve your physical fitness. More importantly, it's good fun, sociable and very supportive.
Your leader is Cathy Debenham, a cycling enthusiast and a qualified British Cycling Mountain Bike Leader.
Bring your own bike, ideally a mountain bike, but a hybrid is also ok, or hire one at Forest Cycle Hire on the Haldon site.
NB: The end time may vary depending on the fitness and size of the group.
Pay weekly: £10
These prices do not include bike hire or parking. Parking is £4 in school holidays, £3 outside them. Regular visitors can get a Discovery Card, which includes a year's parking (and plenty of discounts, including on cake), for £35.
If you are worried about joining a group, you can arrange an hour's 1-2-1 ride with Cathy first to build your confidence: £40.
